The 6th New Zealand Tetsuhiko Asai Sensei Memorial Training

This year’s Shuseki Shihan Tetsuhiko Asai memorial practice marked six years since Sensei passed away. This has been my third year to attend this wonderful event at the IJKA New Zealand honbu dojo (as the other three years I was living and training back in Japan).

This years training session, as always, focused on the more unique IJKA (International Japan Karate Asai-ryu) techniques, execution of kata and Asai Sensei's special oyo-jutsu. Needless to say, this practice was not the Shotokanized version of Asai Karate that is now being practiced worldwide.

The 2012 memorial was a particularly wonderful practice and tribute to Asai Sensei.
