The 6th New Zealand Tetsuhiko Asai Sensei Memorial Training

This year’s Shuseki Shihan Tetsuhiko Asai memorial practice marked six years since Sensei passed away. This has been my third year to attend this wonderful event at the IJKA New Zealand honbu dojo (as the other three years I was living and training back in Japan).

This years training session, as always, focused on the more unique IJKA (International Japan Karate Asai-ryu) techniques, execution of kata and Asai Sensei's special oyo-jutsu. Needless to say, this practice was not the Shotokanized version of Asai Karate that is now being practiced worldwide.

The 2012 memorial was a particularly wonderful practice and tribute to Asai Sensei.

Here are the links to previous Asai Sensei Memorial Training's here on this site:

England Seminars: 10th & 11th November 2012

For those who attend the courses in England there will be very special practice that will benefit your karate for years to come.

Unlike a normal technical course, seminar or gasshuku, everything covered will be related to Shotokan as taught by the late master Tetsuhiko Asai Sensei "as he taught it in socho-geiko" (his self-morning training). Techncially speaking, for those sincerely interested in perfecting Asai Karate this will exceed anything previously unveiled in the United Kingdom; therefore, it will give the instructors who attend a high-class understanding of Asai Sensei's technique. This will include one of the koten kata that I was privately taught from Asai Sensei in Tokyo in the mid 1990s.

Of course the seminars are also open to my students and friends in mainland Europe. And irrespective of political affiliation, everyone who trains is welcome.

Osu, Andre

It is confirmed that I will be teaching a course in Blackpool, England on November 10th and 11th, 2012.

Please click on the poster to contact and contact the organiser, Michael Barr Sensei (IJKA 4th Dan). As always, and irrespective of organisation, it will be a case of first-in-first-served. Particularly this time as there will be limited numbers able to attend this Asai Karate seminar.

I look forward to teaching in England this November. Osu, Andre

Margaret River Newspaper Article

Here is the Newspaper Article from the Margaret River (Western Australia) Seminars last month. To read, please click on the article.

Soon I will be receiving more video footage and photographs from these seminars and they will be uploaded here.

Until then, I'd like to announce that I'll be flown to teach a special Asai Karate seminar in England this November. This will be an open seminar: even though some organisations will ban their members from attending! As always, everyone is welcome irrespective of organisation. This will perhaps be my only ever seminar in the UK due to my new karate responsibilities back in Japan. More details coming soon!

Nabe Party!

Matt Brew Sensei and his wife Eiko (with children Luke & Leona), and Mizuho and I, enjoyed a lovely Nabe party at Ryo and Nanae's home in Merivale. Both Ryo and Nanae are karateka practicing at the IJKA Christchurch Shotokan Dojo (www.christchurchshotokan.blogspot.com) who moved over from Chiba, Japan. Overall, it is was fantastic time with great company and Shotokan-ryu camaraderie.

Off to Australia

Tomorrow morning I leave to teach karate seminars for the KUA (Karate Union of Australia): http://www.kua.com.au/

I'm looking forward to training with traditional Shotokan karateka there and hopefully offering something of use for all.

It will be a long flight from New Zealand right across Australia tomorrow, so I'll have to train triple hard tonight and tomorrow morning. To those attending my technical seminars in Margaret River and Freemantle... See you soon. OSU!
