This site is based on my daily practice of Shotokan Karate-Do here in Oita City, Japan. More than anything else, unlike the majority of other karate websites, this page is primarily dedicated to Budo Karate training itself; that is, Karate-Do as a vehicle for holistic development.

Video compilation from one of my students
Based on the current circumstances I have decided to post some videos, which hopefully support people's training; furthermore, send out some positivity from Japan.

脚戦
Today, my self training was conducted at the local jinja close to my home. The focus was on sonoba kihon (stationary fundamentals) and ashi barai no kata (脚戦 / Kyakusen). It was a light training as earlier in the day, I worked very hard.
Greetings and positive energy from Oita City, Japan.

Seminar Postponed
Very
disappointed that the seminar in Bavaria has been postponed—as
I’m still personally willing to travel—and are in top condition. Likewise, this is not the
organizers fault but, rather, the authorities wishing to stop the spread of
this new flu strand.
At
present, here in Japan, all schools across the nation are closed. Furthermore,
there is possible quarantine for people who travel outside Japan.
Karate
groups in Japan have suspended activities; nevertheless, daily training
continues here.
The
seminar will now be held in Bavaria on July 25/26. I look forward to
seeing you there.

Transfers of Grade to IKS
From this year we are openly permitting
transfer of grades to 国際空手道松濤館(IKS—International Karate Shotokan)for those with officially recognized Dan;
that is, people with official Dan grades can transfer their grade and be certified
from IKS Japan.
In some cases, people wish to remain anonymous, as they are members of other organizations that do not permit dual membership. We accept anonymous transfers—especially here in Japan, but also from outside Japan.
Last, but not least, the transfer of official Dan grades requires a digital copy of the applicants highest Dan certificate. Once this is verified, we can process your application.
The registration date (put on the diploma issued) will be the day the rank is registered here in Japan; however, “…the date for attempting the next rank is based on that of the provided diploma”. For example, a person transferring their Sandan—which they passed in 2017—if registered today will be issued an registration date of March 8, 2020; nonetheless, they will eligible to attempt the Yondan next year (as four years has passed since originally passing their Sandan).
For those wishing to transfer your
Dan and be registered in Japan with IKS you can apply via email at: andrebertelono@gmail.com
Osu, André
IKS is an organization devoted to karate as bujutsu. For authentic karateka wishing to follow this path, we welcome you. |
